Oakland’s craft beer and taproom scene is popping. With dozens of breweries and taprooms in Oakland, it’s no wonder why hop-heads from all over the Bay Area flocking to The Town. Here is a walking guide to four of our favorite stops in Uptown and Downtown Oakland.

First Stop

Modern Times

Begin your journey at the north end of Uptown at California’s very first employee-owned brewery. Modern Times opened their Oakland taproom in December 2019. With outposts in San Diego, Portland and Oregon, each taproom is uniquely designed and offers guests 34 taps of a variety of beers.

Second Stop

Drake Dealership

Located at The Hive in Uptown Oakland,
Drake’s Dealership is a full-service restaurant with 32 beers on tap. The crown jewel of the beautiful space is a grand open-air beer garden where you can imbibe your beers and bites. Enjoy a wood-fired pizza and sample their fresh beer, brewed right here in the East Bay.

Third Stop

Lost & Found Beer Garden

Keep the good times rolling at Lost & Found Beer Garden. This beer garden features a large patio, 20 beers on tap, and a rotating menu of small bites and larger dishes. While there, burn off some of the booze with a round of cornhole.

Fourth Stop

Woods Bar & Brewery

Stagger over to Woods Bar & Brewery where the “beer curious” can try original creations made at this location by Jim Woods and team. Woods Beer Co., whose original Cervecería is located on 18th Street at the corner of Dolores Park, is home to the MateVeza – a beer that takes the popular caffeinated Maté tea from Argentina and infuses the beer with it. Pair it with one of their Argentinian empanadas. Delicioso!
