Looking to do some early holiday shopping with meaning? Come check out the Oakland Art Market in November as we look to create a space where local artists and vendors come together to give you an alternative shopping experience. Support local arts and artists by buying original, handcrafted works that you can share with those closest to you. Also, there are many chances to treat yourself to photography, clothing, jewelry, paintings, shields, accessories & more!

Q. What was the inspiration behind the event?
The Museum of Children’s Arts employs over 20 Teaching Artists that bring art into the lives of over 25,000 young people throughout the East Bay annually. Kaya Fortune, a MOCHA Teaching Artist and local icon, approached MOCHA about the idea of having the space open up to local artists and vendors annually as a way to showcase the talents and works of the burgeoning art scene in Oakland. Over 10 MOCHA Teaching Artists agreed to create works to be sold and the Oakland Art Market was born. The Oakland Art Market looks to create an opportunity to have an affordable and soulful experience while supporting the people that provide that creative energy to our community.

Q. Tell us in one sentence why attendees love the event.
The chance to buy original, handcrafted, unique pieces of art, jewelry, clothing, sculptures, accessories & more to support Oakland’s artists that work in the community as another opportunity to build community and think collectively.

Q. What’s the best thing about holding the event in Oakland?
Oakland is the soul of the Bay. As fast as the look of Oakland is changing, it’s important to embrace the feel of Oakland by supporting the people who contribute to the culture through the arts.

Q. Does your event partner with local businesses in Oakland?
We are open to partner with any local business. Our focus up to this point has been reaching out to individual artists. We are still accepting artists for vendor booths. $50 for two days for 1 table. Contact: artmarket@mocha.org

Q. What’s the one thing Oakland offers that makes it the best place for your event?
MOCHA has been creating a space for children, parents, educators, artists and administrators to engage in the principles of art for 27 years. We strengthen our community by nurturing young people’s creativity, curiosity and educational success through hands-on arts programming in our museum, school and community sites. Oakland is home.

Q. What is the one thing you want everyone to know about this event?
Join us on Friday, November 13th from 5-8pm & Saturday November 14th from 12-5pm at the Oakland Art Market. Support Bay Area arts & artists! The event is free and open to the public.
