Uptown Oakland is getting a taste of ramen as Itani Ramen, owned by Kyle Itani, officially opened its doors on May 2 at 1736 Telegraph Avenue. Kyle, who also owns Hopscotch Restaurant and Bar in Oakland, has collaborated with Executive Chef Brian Ikenoyama, to offer an exciting, seasonal menu that highlights ramen from different regions of Japan, all in a space designed with a modern mix of Japanese functional simplicity and Oakland aesthetics. The restaurant will be a hybrid of counter service and tableside ordering, offering a casual and convivial dining experience.

Q. What was the inspiration behind the event?
“My vision with opening Itani Ramen is to provide guests delicious, affordable ramen and an educational experience, inspired by my travels through Japan, as well as trips that I’ll continue to take over the coming years. The city and our neighbors have already been so welcoming to my food and we are looking forward to bringing ramen to locals and visitors alike.” – Kyle Itani
