3rd Thursdays at Latham Square
July 18, 2019
Still, feel like celebrating Independence Day, come out to 3rd Thursdays at Latham Square where the party continues. Check out the line up for this month.
Whiskerman – is a rock-and-roll overture to our great unraveling. Over the last 7 years the Oakland band has developed an underground reputation for tackling the sublime with their ambitious songwriting, thunderous stage show, and acute lyricism. They have since emerged as an engine of the Bay Area’s revitalized psychedelic and festival scenes. Frontman Graham Patzner, who will crow like a medicine show preacher, and then coo you into the arms of his lovesick eternity, might be a spitfire protege of the underworld himself, though, through and through he will remind you that there is no rapture without artistry. On the surface this is splendid rock-and-roll, rooted in the classic, psych and glam rock tradition, but the pageantry and chaos of Whiskerman’s performances will leave you describing an experience more than a sound.
Whiskerman is preparing to release their fourth studio album, Kingdom Illusion–a rock and roll vision quest that ushers the band’s elegiac psychedellia towards a louder, pushier, more colorful sound. Their past albums have been described as “ecstatic psychedelia, sturdily constructed pop-rock, pick-and-grin folk all together as a single picture.” (Flood Magazine)
The band is: Graham Patzner (vocals, guitar, violin and piano), Will Lawrence (bass), and Charles Lloyd (guitar and sitar), Dan Schwartz (drums), and Jeremy Lyon (guitar).
Speakeasē – started by Adrienne Wickham-Gobert & Daniel Erik, began on a small stage in a Redwood forest up in Mendocino county. Shortly after kindling their musical spirits, Adrienne and Daniel grew the group into a 5-piece neo-soul, funk ensemble.
Our sound is reminiscent of new bands like Hiatus Kaiyote, Moonchild and Grace Potter yet throwback vibes of Sam Cooke and Bill Withers. We blend soul, funk, rock, blues, and folk into a curated hot plate of musical vibrations that will be sure to move your soul and leave you dancing.
DJ True Justice – aka The Man of Steel, has been a pioneer in the Bay Area Hip Hop scene since 1989. In an era where real deejaying skills have become scare, True Justice holds the torch, and is known for tearing clubs down in every city and every town. No stranger to hustle and showmanship, he comes from the era of constantly packing the vinyl crates and being out on the road!
True’s ambition is to showcase the amount of talent that he has amassed in the last 17 years in Northern California, better known as The Yay Area. While still in high school, True Justice was a hip hop dancer for the Oakland, CA super-group A.P.G. (Action Packed Gangstas), and at the age of 16, he found himself doing concerts with the likes of Digital Underground, Capital Tax, Paris and K-Cloud — while witnessing first hand the birth of the independent hip hop game in the culturally rich Bay Area.
