As part of Oakland’s inaugural Tech Equity Week, the Capital Connections Conference features a pitch session with a $10k prize, a reception with Jesse Jackson and an inspiring lineup of speakers discussing diversity and tech.
Q. What was the inspiration behind the event?
We hold our conference annually to bring together top entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds and connect them to resources that can help them thrive.

Attendees love watching the exciting pitch session from top diverse entrepreneurs and, of course, all the wonderful people they meet.
Q. What’s the best thing about holding the event in Oakland?
Everyone is so collaborative!
Q. Does your event partner with local businesses in Oakland?
Yes! We’ve partnered with a number of nonprofits in the area including Qeyno Labs, Hidden Genius Project, Kapor Center, Rainbow PUSH and others to bring together Tech Equity Week. We also hire local vendors including OVM, Blue Heron Catering, and work out of the Port co-working space.
Q. What’s the one thing Oakland offers that makes it the best place for your event?
Oakland does it differently. We care about our community, we care about equity, and we work together to make magical things happen.
Q. What is the one thing you want everyone to know about this event?
This is THE event to come to meet others interested in diversity, inclusion, and tech!
