Downtown Oakland is not only in the heart of Oakland, it is also located in the geographical epicenter of the greater San Francisco Bay Area. It’s also easy to get to and get around once you’re here. It is easily accessible by multiple modes of transportation including train (BART and Amtrak), Bus (AC Transit), Ferry (San Francisco Bay Ferry), Bike Share, and of course, by rideshare or taxi. Once here, it is very easy to explore by foot, bike or by our Free Broadway Shuttle that runs until 10pm M-Th and 1am on Friday and Saturdays from the Jack London Square waterfront to Grand Avenue providing access to the many restaurants, bars, galleries, and retail shopping in Downtown Oakland.
Bicycling is a wonderful way to get from point A to B, and to C and D. Moving on two wheels also gets you some fresh air and exercise, helps you discover our great city, and can be extremely efficient. With almost 160 miles of bikeways built, 9,650 bike parking spaces, and a brand new bikeshare system coming to Oakland, residents, workers and visitors alike can take advantage of all the benefits of bicycling. Join Walk Oakland Bike Oakland‘s monthly WOBO Weekend guided biking and walking tour series, or free Urban Bicycling Skills classes offered by Bike East Bay to kick start the healthy habit.
There are many parking options in Downtown Oakland including street parking, surface lots, and parking garages. All street parking is $2.00 per hour, and the City recently upgraded its parking meters to Smart Meters that accept credit cards and coins. Parkme is an interactive map on desktop or mobile that can even reserve a parking space in lots and garages. More on parking here.
