Teen Seen Festival
The Oakland Teen Seen Festival (OTSF) is a showcase of local youth who exemplify an uncommonly advanced level of achievement in their respective disciplines. We will feature several music ensembles, spoken word, and dance artists.
The group JAX, who are also to be featured on this event, expressed an interest in creating a showcase to share the talents of their music ensemble as well as those of their very talented peers. The result of a dream spoken out loud has resulted in the realization of the OTSF.
Audience members will be inspired and filled with joy by this collective of positive young artists who will most certainly overwhelm us with their talents. The OTSF lineup includes JAX, Ajai Wilborn, Jamming Nachos, Lyla Neely, The Void, and more to be announced!

Free Mole Tasting
March 24, 2:00 pm-4:00 pm
Agave Uptown in Oakland is hosting a free tasting event on
Saturday, March 24 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. (an early Saturday opening time instead of the usual 4:00 p.m.)
Agave is celebrating the debut of the restaurant’s in-a-jar retail availability of their acclaimed mole sauce. There is no charge to attend the event and guests are asked to RSVP.
Small bites of appetizers from the current Agave menu will be used to showcase mole sauce that is made with 20-plus fresh ingredients from a secret family recipe (vegan and gluten-free) and the sauce in 16 oz. jars will be available for sale for $9.49 each.
There will also be a tasting of select artisan mezcals from Oaxaca, Mexico. At 4:00 p.m. there will be a mole presentation by Agave Executive Chef and restaurant entrepreneur Octavio Diaz’s mother and father, plus live musical entertainment from local band Alegres Callejeros on the restaurant’s patio.
Diaz grew up near the city of Oaxaca, Mexico and at age 13 moved to Rohnert Park, California and subsequently obtained a degree in hotel and restaurant management. After working at places such as the Sonoma Wine Country Hilton and Petaluma Sheraton, he opened Agave Mexican Restaurant & Tequila Bar in Healdsburg serving authentic Oaxacan style food that inspired a second location, Agave Uptown, at the Kapor Center in Oakland. His mother frequently helps make the signature mole negro by hand with imported Oaxacan ingredients. The bright and festive Agave Uptown dining room references the culture and history of Oaxaca. Decor highlights include a color palette of cool blues and earthy reds, yellows and oranges; a teak floor that sets the foundation for wood, copper, porcelain, and braided leather accents; custom translucent porcelain lampshades, planters and votives; wall panels with jicara gourds set in translucent epoxy; banquette seating; and an open kitchen with custom mosaic tile and copper clad columns.
Agave Uptown is located at 2135 Franklin Street, at Broadway, in Oakland, California. Regular dining room hours are Monday through Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Saturday 3:00 to 10:00 p.m. and Sunday 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Reservation can be obtained via OpenTable.com. The telephone number is (510) 288-3668 and more information can be found at Agave Uptown.
Oakland Symphony presents
Rooted in Oakland
featuring Kev Choice and Schubert
We look into the future of Oakland’s music with Oakland Native Kev Choice, a classically-trained pianist and composer debuting “Soul Restoration Suite”, an original symphonic piece commissioned by Oakland Symphony. Kev uses wit and creative lyricism to bring a positive and inspiring message to his unique blend of jazz, R&B, and soul. Also, for the more traditional, we are featuring Schubert, Rossini, and Bristow: Schubert was only 19 when he wrote his exuberant 5th symphony. Like Kev, he bent the genre of his day and discovered a unique symphonic voice of his own. Oakland Symphony’s high school and middle school orchestra, MUSE VIVO, joins the symphony as they play Rossini’s famous “Barber of Seville” overture–with a wink and a nod to Bugs Bunny!
Tell us in one sentence why attendees love the event.
Attendees will love this event because they will be exposed new music in a classical style and traditional classical music.
What’s the best thing about holding the event in Oakland?
An opportunity to showcase talent from Oakland, next to great composers of the past.

Chef Ronny Love born and raised in the Oakland Bay Area, Is a third generation Azorean American. His family came over from the Azores in the 30’s. All of his family can cook; it was just part of the culture and still is in their family. He was a dish washer at a family owned ice creamery for his first job. It was a very humbling experience. It’s harder than you think to get ice cream and hot fudge off plates when there are 600 of them. Someone asked him “If you weren’t a chef what would you be?” His reply was simple “If I wasn’t a Chef, I wouldn’t BE.” Chef Ronny’s claim to fame includes studying under Michael Mina at Aqua for 2 years and recently, Chef at Precita Park in San Francisco.
Live entertainment by Mio Flores & the Latin Jazz Timbalero Quartet will be in the house keeping things groovin! Check out Eat Play Events & Catering Facebook page for their awesome video!
